The results are indeed interesting, but they don't attract my attention that much. What catches my eye is the poll on the Top 10 Most Trusted Professions in Malaysia. The result:
1. Pilot
2. Teacher
3. Doctor
4. Paramedic
5. Firefighter
6. Surgeon
7. Scientist
8. Dentist
9. Pharmacist
10. Nurse
So according to the Reader's Digest poll, teachers rank at number 2. It feels good to know that people trust us, but at the same time, it brings us back to reality. Teachers are entrusted with so much. The burdens are tremendous. As one teacher puts it, "What becomes of the future relies on the hands of us teachers. The next generation of leaders are here, sitting in our classrooms".
Let's not betray the trust.

Indeed. It was Aristotle who shaped the young Alexandros Philippos Makedonon, better known as Alexander The Great. And from the Alexander, Greek ideas and language were spread throughout Asia stretching from the areas around Turkey to India. And it all began from a Greek teacher named Aristotle.
ReplyDeleteAristotle was a great teacher, and he was also a student of Plato, wasn't he? Plato himself was an exceptional teacher. Wonderful to see how the cup kept on overflowing. Henry Adams says it the best: "A teacher affects eternity, he can never tell where his influence stops."
ReplyDeleteThe flow is this: Socrates - Plato - Aristotle. And from Aristotle the spread of Greek ideas that shape the Western and present civilisation.

ReplyDeleteI have known several teachers during my schooling years who have made such an impact in my life. What I am today has a great deal to do with what those teachers had taught me to be. We can't be Socrates or Plato or Aristotle but we can be a teacher who inspires and make a change in a person's life.
